China’s New National Standard for Lithium-Ion Batteries for Electric Vehicles Released

China has just released a new national standard for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). The new standard, GB/T 38031-2023, is designed to improve the safety and reliability of EV batteries. It replaces the previous standard, GB/T 36276-2018, which was in place since 2018

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration Committee have unveiled a revamped national standard for lithium-ion batteries intended for electric vehicles (EVs). This new standard, set to supersede the existing GB/T 36276-2018 standard, will officially come into effect on July 1, 2024.

This updated standard reflects the advancements in lithium-ion battery technology and aims to enhance the safety and performance of EV batteries. It introduces stricter requirements for battery testing, ensuring that EV batteries meet the highest safety standards. Additionally, the standard emphasizes the need for intelligent battery management systems to effectively monitor and control battery performance.
