2024 Lithium Carbonate June (China)
In June, China’s lithium carbonate imports saw a significant decrease of 20.3% compared to the previous month, however import prices remained stable. Chile continued to be the dominant supplier, contributing 80% of imports, while Argentina is ramping up production and exports.
China’s imports of spodumene concentrate also decreased in June compared to May. Africa is emerging as a key source of lithium ore, accounting for nearly 30% of China’s imports, with Brazil’s exports notably growing by 60%.
The ongoing decline in lithium carbonate prices is creating uncertainty in the spot market, making both buyers and sellers hesitant. The situation is further exacerbated by an increase in low-priced lepidolite supply due to resolved environmental issues, adding to the already saturated market.
