2024 Lithium Carbonate October (China)
The lithium market is showing signs of dynamic changes , with Argentina & Zimbabwe making a splash on the international stage.
China Sees Price Dip Amidst Weakening Demand:
Battery-grade lithium carbonate prices in China experienced a downturn, falling to 77,500-80,500 yuan/ton. This dip reflects weaker purchasing sentiment among downstream material factories, who are anticipating reduced production and holding back on stockpiling as the year draws to a close. Despite upstream lithium production factories trying to maintain prices, the cautious attitude of buyers is driving the current market trend.
Argentina’s Lithium Exports :
October saw Argentina’s lithium exports to China more than double, signaling that the nation’s ambitious lithium projects are finally hitting their stride. This surge establishes Argentina as a major player in the global lithium market, with its production capacity poised to significantly influence global supply.
Chinese Imports
While overall lithium carbonate import prices in China remained somewhat subdued in October, there’s an interesting development on the spodumene concentrate front. Zimbabwe has emerged as the second largest exporter of this lithium-bearing ore to China, highlighting the growing diversification of China’s lithium sourcing.
